The 2027 match marks 50 years since the first state of origin game in Australian rules football, played in 1977 between Western Australia and Victoria. It also falls in the year the SANFL marks 150 years.
The format returned in 2026 at Optus Stadium, drawing more than 58,000 fans. The AFL says the rivalry will continue for at least three more years, with South Australia against Victoria at Adelaide Oval in 2028. Tickets go through Ticketmaster, with club members first on 2 December 2026 and the general public on 3 December 2026.
